THIS ORPHAN PAID IDR 75,000 TO HIRE A FAKE FATHER FOR HER GRADUATION DAY

Mrs. Rika’s sneer cut through the ambient murmur of the school hall, drawing curious glances from nearby parents. She leaned back in her chair, folding her arms over her chest as if she had just won a grand prize. Beside her, Tasya smirked, mimicking her mother’s posture.

Nisa’s grip on Adrian’s hand tightened to a point where her knuckles turned white. She bit her lower lip, staring intently at the scuffed leather of her own worn school shoes. She wanted to vanish into the floorboards, crushed by the weight of public humiliation.

Adrian felt the tremor running through the little girl’s tiny hand. In that instant, the icy detachment that had guarded his heart for five agonizing years fractured completely. He did not raise his voice, nor did he display an ounce of anger. Instead, he simply adjusted the cuffs of his bespoke Italian suit jacket, step forward, and placed a protective hand on Nisa’s shoulder.

He looked down at Mrs. Rika with eyes as cold as absolute zero.

“Madam,” Adrian spoke, his voice low, deep, and carrying an innate command that instantly silenced the surrounding whispers. “A person’s dignity is not measured by the depth of their family tree, nor by the arrogance of their tongue. It is measured by their character and achievements.”

Mrs. Rika blinked, caught off guard by the sheer authority emanating from the stranger. For a moment, her tongue faltered, but her pride quickly overrode her composure. She huffed loudly, sizing up Adrian’s crisp attire and polished demeanour.

“Who do you think you are to lecture me?” Mrs. Rika scoffed, attempting to regain her dominant footing. “I am a major sponsor for this school’s building fund! I know everyone in this neighborhood, and I certainly know every wealthy family around here. You are just a hired actor this orphan paid to put on a show!”

Adrian did not bother answering her. He calmly drew a sleek, dark handkerchief from his pocket and gently wiped a stray droplet of rain from Nisa’s cheek.

“Sit down, Nisa,” Adrian said softly, his tone completely shifting from cold steel to tender warmth. “Today is your day. Do not waste a single second of it paying attention to background noise.”

Nisa looked up at him, her eyes wide with wonder. The deep, terrifying sadness that had threatened to consume her just moments ago dissolved, replaced by an overwhelming sense of safety. She nodded eagerly and took her seat in the front row, holding her head high. Adrian sat beside her, folding his arms and ignoring the toxic glares coming from Mrs. Rika.

Minutes later, the principal stepped up to the podium, tapping the microphone to initiate the official proceedings. Speech after speech went by, but the audience grew visibly restless, waiting for the main highlight of the morning: the presentation of the academic excellence awards.

“And now,” the principal announced, his voice echoing through the acoustics of the hall, “we arrive at the highest honor of the year. The Valedictorian Award for the top primary school graduate.”

Mrs. Rika sat up straight, practically glowing with smug anticipation. She nudged her daughter, preparing to stand up and lead the applause.

“With a perfect academic score and outstanding character,” the principal declared warmly, “the award goes to… Nisa!”

Thunderous applause erupted from the teachers and students. Nisa gasped, her hands flying to her mouth in pure disbelief. She looked to her side, finding Adrian already standing up, clapping for her with a genuine, proud smile breaking across his handsome face.

“Go on, Nisa,” Adrian encouraged her gently. “Go receive what you have earned.”

With tears of happiness spilling over her cheeks, Nisa walked up the wooden steps to the stage. As the principal handed her the heavy gold trophy and framed certificate, the entire hall cheered. From the front row, Adrian stood tall, applauding enthusiastically, his eyes fixed on the beaming young girl. For the first time in five years, the heavy, suffocating darkness in his chest lifted entirely. Watching Nisa hold her head up high brought back memories of his late daughter, but instead of soul-crushing grief, he felt a profound sense of warmth and peace.

When Nisa returned to her seat, trophy clutched tightly against her chest, Mrs. Rika was seething with visible resentment. She muttered loudly under her breath, “Hmph! So what if she got first place? An orphan will always remain an orphan. No background, no future. When she steps out of this school, she has nothing!”

Before Adrian could even address the spiteful woman, the heavy double doors at the back of the hall burst open.

A group of men in sharp charcoal-grey business suits marched briskly down the center aisle. At the head of the group was a middle-aged man in expensive spectacles, looking visibly panicked and sweating profusely despite the air-conditioned room.

The crowd gasped as they recognized the man. It was Mr. Heng, the Chief Executive Officer of the city’s largest commercial bank and the primary trustee of several prominent educational foundations.

Mrs. Rika’s eyes went wide. Recognizing Mr. Heng as an elite figure far beyond her social circle, she instantly straightened her dress, put on a sycophantic smile, and prepared to greet him, assuming he was visiting the school for a high-level inspection.

However, Mr. Heng paid no attention to Mrs. Rika or anyone else. His eyes swept frantically across the front row until they locked onto Adrian.

Sweat pouring down his forehead, Mr. Heng hurried over and bowed deeply at a ninety-degree angle right in front of Adrian, completely shocking the entire assembly.

“Mr. Mahendra!” Mr. Heng gasped, his voice trembling with extreme anxiety. “Please forgive us! We searched all over the headquarters when you missed the morning board meeting. When your private chauffeur informed us that your car was parked outside this school, I rushed here immediately!”

A collective gasp echoed across the entire hall. Whispers spread like wildfire.

“Did he just say Mr. Mahendra?” “As in Adrian Mahendra? The owner of Mahendra Group?” “The billionaire conglomerate tycoon?”

Mrs. Rika’s face drained of all color instantly. Her jaw dropped so low it looked almost painful, her hands shaking violently as horror washed over her entire body. The man she had just insulted, the person she had accused of being a cheap hired actor from the roadside, was the single most powerful and wealthiest man in the entire country.

Adrian slowly stood up, placing one hand in his trouser pocket. His gaze was calm, almost terrifyingly cold.

“You are intruding upon a very important ceremony, Mr. Heng,” Adrian said flatly.

“I… I apologize profusely, Sir!” Mr. Heng stammered, bowing again. “The board of directors is waiting for your signature on the multi-billion-dollar development contract, but of course, your personal affairs come first!”

Adrian turned his gaze toward Mrs. Rika, who was now trembling so violently she looked on the verge of fainting. She shrank back into her seat, praying to vanish into thin air.

“Mr. Heng,” Adrian spoke coldly, his voice easily carrying across the hushed room. “Who is the major financial backer for the local commercial developments in this district?”

“That would be our bank, Mr. Mahendra,” Mr. Heng replied instantly. “And as you know, Mahendra Group owns eighty percent of our bank’s voting shares.”

“Excellent,” Adrian said, staring directly into Mrs. Rika’s terrified eyes. “I want a complete audit on every business operating in this district. If there are any shop owners who display atrocious moral conduct and abuse their minor financial standing to humiliate young orphans, revoke their commercial leases and terminate their lines of credit immediately.”

Mrs. Rika gasped softly, her breath catching in her throat. She realized instantly that her beloved gold shop, her entire livelihood and status, was about to be wiped out with a single word from this man. She tried to open her mouth to apologize, to beg for mercy, but no sound came out.

Adrian did not give her another second of his attention. He turned away, offering his hand to Nisa.

“Shall we go, Nisa? I believe the ceremony has concluded,” Adrian said softly, his face instantly softening into a warm smile.

Nisa, still trying to grasp the reality of who her “fake father” actually was, looked at his outstretched hand. She did not see a terrifying billionaire tycoon. She only saw the gentle uncle who had protected her honor, stood up for her, and clapped for her when no one else would.

Nisa smiled brightly, placing her tiny hand in his. “Yes, Papa!”

They walked together down the center aisle, leaving behind a hall filled with stunned silence and awe.

Once outside, the rain had completely stopped. Golden sunlight filtered through the parting clouds, illuminating the lush green park across the street. Adrian’s sleek black Maybach rolled up to the curb, the driver stepping out quickly to open the rear door.

Before stepping into the luxury vehicle, Nisa stopped. She reached into her pocket and pulled out the small transparent plastic bag containing her entire savings—the coins and crumpled IDR 2,000 banknotes totaling IDR 75,000.

She held it out to Adrian with both hands, looking up at him with genuine gratitude.

“Here is your payment, Uncle Adrian,” Nisa said sweetly. “Thank you for being the best father in the world today. This is everything I have.”

Adrian looked at the plastic bag, then down at the little girl whose smile was brighter than the midday sun. He knelt on one knee in front of her, disregarding his expensive suit touching the damp pavement.

Gently, Adrian took the plastic bag from her hands. He unzipped his inner suit pocket, carefully placed the plastic bag right next to his heart, and pulled out a small, old silver locket.

He opened the locket, revealing a photograph of his late wife and his daughter, Keysha.

“Nisa,” Adrian whispered, his voice thick with emotion. “Five years ago, I lost my daughter. I thought my heart died with her on that day. I thought I would never have a reason to smile or live a meaningful life again.”

He looked into Nisa’s clear, innocent eyes.

“Today, you did not just hire a father for IDR 75,000,” Adrian continued, a single tear escaping his eye and rolling down his cheek. “You saved a broken man from his own darkness. You gave me back my life.”

Nisa reached out her small hand and gently wiped the tear from Adrian’s face.

Adrian stood up, taking her hand tightly in his. “Keep your trophy safe, Nisa. From today onward, you are coming home with me. You will never have an empty seat beside you ever again.”

Nisa’s eyes filled with tears of pure joy as she nodded softly. Together, they stepped into the car, closing the door behind them, ready to start a brand new chapter of life filled with warmth, hope, and an unbreakable bond of love.
